Camp Brim Shire -Association Midwest Disadvantage Youth Inc.

Camp Brim Shire’s unique campus is provided by the Association for Midwest Disadvantaged Youth, Inc., a registered, private Missouri not-for-profit, Missouri tax exempt, IRS 503c3 tax exempt charitable foundation, and we have NO paid employees or staff. AMDY/Camp Brim Shire has now served our communities with our conservation based programs for over 29 years. Our ALL VOLUNTEER foundation provides outdoor education, services, social, rehabilitative, educational and developmental programs for 4,000 youth and 670 seniors annually. Of the 4,000 youth over 2,000 are physically and mentally challenged. We also serve Cub, Boy, Daisy and Girl Scouts, 4-H, FFA, schools, churches and numerous community agencies. 25%, or over 1,000, of our children are free as well as all of our seniors and veterans. (Our rate is a nominal $2.00 per day.)

AMDY/Camp Brim Shire provides Angel Wing (a free “Ronald McDonald” type facility), supporting the six regional hospitals in our area. Our campus is totally ADA qualified; we are the only Missouri campground with outdoor deaf therapy equipment, 1/3 mile paved blind training/learning trail, capable of sleeping/housing 150 children. Our free senior programs support six local area nursing homes and the Missouri Veterans Home at St. James twice a year. We are a certified Wildlife Habitat, prairie restoration site, a registered and certified member of the Gateway Center for Giving, St. James Chamber of Commerce, long term member of the Missouri University Extension, endorsed by Phelps County and a VOLUNTEER certified member of the St. Louis United Way. Our foundation was recommended and selected as one of the four original capstone projects when six of us developed the Master Naturalist program in the winter of 2004, and we are always pleased to host M/N meetings, socials and gatherings.
