Maramec Spring Park

Beautiful Maramec Spring Park contains the fifth largest spring in the state. The park is the home of an historic iron works and a trout hatchery administered by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Maramec Spring Park is owned and operated by The James Foundation, a not-for-profit organization. Maramec Spring Park is located on the Meramec River, six miles south of St. James on Highway 8.

Master Naturalist’s volunteers are needed to help out at the park’s natural history museum when the James Foundation hosts Old Iron Works Days in October. Old Iron Works Days features arts, crafts, foods, displays and presentations that provide a glimpse of life from 1827 to 1891, when the spring was home to the first commercially viable iron works in the US west of the Mississippi. More Meramec Hills chapter volunteers are needed for Kid’s Fishing Day in May when kids 15 and under fish free. Volunteers assist with games, contests, educational exhibits and other activities.
